A Chance Encounter with RailAdventure

My first encounter with this Munich-based company was during a site visit to one of the repair shops in Frankfurt. The name “RailAdventure” sounds like a rail travel company from North America (note: there are private chartered trains that tourists could take especially along the west coast of the United States) but to find American rolling stocks in Frankfurt, let alone in Germany would be rare.

Apparently, they are not a rail excursion chartered company but specialise in special rolling stock transport. They also have a dome car “Luxon”, which could be rented for private events, and “Zughotel” aka hotel for trains.

In addition to the name and Traffic Grey B/Agate Grey livery, there is an interesting adapter at one end of their cars – coupling adapter cars. According to RailAdventure website, these coupling cars could be used to couple different European coupling systems e.g. standard buffers-and-chain-coupler and Scharfenberg coupler (mainly for metro and highspeed-trains). The height of these coupling adapters could be adjusted depending on the height of the rolling stock to be transported, with or without their Loco Buggy, which is another interesting innovation.

This visit made me curious to find out more about RailAdventure, what they do and the type of equipment they owned. Model hobbyists are appreciative of railway companies that are supportive of our hobby. RailAdventure is truly one of them. They shared their RAL colors and logos for us to model.
