Review: World’s Smallest but Most Powerful All-in-One DCC/DC CommandStation

The Hardware I think it is NOT preposterous to make the claim that the DCC-EX CommandStation/Booster 1 Express (EX-CSB1) is world’s smallest and most powerful all-in-one DCC/DC CommandStation/Booster. Its dimensions with the optional display case are L 73.6mm x W 70.7mm x H 19.5mm and weighs only 33 grams. After reading DCC-EX documentation, I was immediately convinced to get hold an EX-CSB1 to try out on my test track, module and eventually in-planning home layout. I owned Roco/Fleichmann z21 white CommandStation (it has since .been sold), a Märklin Central Station CS2 and a Fleischmann analog power pack. These are bulky … Continue reading Review: World’s Smallest but Most Powerful All-in-One DCC/DC CommandStation

Review: Alternative Coupling for Märklin/Trix Niederflurwagen (Rollende Landstraße (RoLa))

Review: Roco Reihe 2016 902-5 RADVE Austrian Hercules

HERCULES!, HERCULES, HERCULES! (or is that you, Arnold?!) When I first saw the RailAdventure Hercules at a siding in Dresden central railway station last year, I immediately felt in love with the appearance. No words could describe the design. I wanted to repaint an existing Hercules model into RailAdventure livery when Roco announced late last year that they will be making one. GOOD JOB, Roco! This saved me a lot of efforts. This Roco RADVE-Hercules is my 3rd locomotive model from Roco and I am very happy with the crispy printing, fine details, sound and running characteristics. Overall Impressions of … Continue reading Review: Roco Reihe 2016 902-5 RADVE Austrian Hercules

Review: Märklin & Piko BR 218 497-6 DB FZI Cottbus Special Livery

In Autumn 2021, Märklin and Piko announced the result of their joint project to produce Class (Baureihe) 218 497-6 DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung Cottbus in special livery. On one half of the diesel locomotive carries the Piko logo on a black blackground to symbolise the steam era and on the other half carries the Märklin logo on a white background to symbolise the modern Intercity livery. This special livery signifies the connection of DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung (DB Heavy Mainteinance) legacy as a repair shop for steam locomotives as well as its future as the latest ICE maintenance depot.
