RailAdventure bought a Vossloh DE18 diesel locomotive from Eiffage Rail S.n.c., Vélizy-Villacoublay in 2019 (92 87 4185 011-1 F-ERSF) and repainted it to RailAdventure livery. Rivarossi made a beautiful H0-scale model of this vehicle in 2 versions: HR2921 (DC) and HR2921S (DCC Sound) for the 2-rail fans. At the same time, Rivarossi mentioned that they are planning a 3-rail version. However, we the 3-rail fans were disappointed that they will not produce it anymore (for now?). This means, we had to buy either 2-rail versions and install a pick-up shoe separately.

Many may not be aware that RailAdventure rented another Vossloh DE18 (92 80 4185 006-8 D-VL) from Vossloh Rolling Stock GmbH at various time in 2020 and 2021 to supplement its fleet. However, this short-term rented locomotive did not receive RailAdventure livery.

Beside the Hercules diesel locomotive, the Vossloh DE18 is another favourite model of mine.You can see why.

Overall Impressions of Rivarossi RailAdventure Vossloh DE18 Model

I must take my hat off for Rivarossi. They put in great efforts in making a nice box for their RailAdventure models. So far, I have their Habfis wagon set and Luxon panoramic dome car. Each of them comes with nicely-designed box rather than standard packaging that you get from other manufacturers.

The moment I unboxed the model, I am already very impressed with the crisp lettering and with Vossloh DE 18 diesel locomotive. I have been eyeing for this model for a long time and I am glad Rivarossi did a great job. The only disappointment for me is that there is no 3-rail AC version.

Both bogies have super details.

The view from top is not disappointing. See the fine details as well as the see-through ventilation fans at the long hood. I am not sure if the fans rotate.

The buffers even have grease stains. Thus, save us from the need to weather them further.

This model Vossloh DE 18 is a MUST-HAVE for any RailAdventure fans in France and any RailAdventure fans in general. For Vossloh DE18 fans, do get one!
