In the Märklin Insider Group MIST-61, two passionate RailAdventure enthusiasts are actively involved. They own the complete collection of 3-rail models in 1:87 scale (H0 gauge) and came up with the fantastic idea of building a RailAdventure module.
Last night, Peter and I presented the concept and construction plan for our MIST-61 x RailAdventure-Zughotel module at the group meeting.

Peter, the master planner of MIST-61, created a highly accurate track layout based on an aerial image of the Zughotel in Braunschweig from Google Maps. After several rounds of discussion, we adjusted the track plan so that all modules would fit into my car’s trunk. The total length is nearly 5 meters, spanning 5 segments. The maximum width must not exceed 0.65 meters to fit in the trunk.
Key features we want to replicate include the signaling tower Ba, the Zughotel workshop, the observation tower, and the new underfloor wheelset lathe hall (URD). Overall, we will need 19 switches in various configurations.
With 5 storage tracks, we can create 4 feed and 4 return groups. Each group can accommodate up to 3 cars and locomotives.
The centerpiece of our module will be the train hotel workshop, which will span 1.13 meters in Segment 3.

All building models will be created from kits and through 3D printing. I will do my utmost to replicate each facility as accurately as possible, taking the necessary time with the goal of laying all tracks by the module running day at the end of February 2025. Initially, the switches will be operated manually; later, I plan to install electronic switch controls—but without digital decoders.
The building models will be visible on both the module and operator sides. Each segment will be painted in the RailAdventure color “Achatgray” with a traffic green stripe, as seen on the company’s vehicles. The lettering “RailAdventure” and “Train Hotel” will be applied with airbrush and brush techniques.
On the operator side, the workshop will be visible. The roofs of the URD hall and the workshop will be designed to be removable for better access.

Now, the work begins!
