Loewenherz Takes Delivery First Park Railway Trainset

At the beginning of the year Bad Niedrigsrode mayor Sebastian Vogelsinger announced the procurement of 600mm gauge biodiesel trainsets for the Loewenherz park railway. A tender was awarded to the company that designed the famous Porsche trainset for Karlsruhe and Saarbrücken park railways. The selection of the design was based on a public opinion poll in Bad Niedrigsrode and online. The other contender was the ICE diesel trainset from Cottbus park railway (dt. Cottbuser Parkeisenbahn). Majority chose the classic Porschelok design, which fits to the theme of the Loewenherz railway park in preserving a piece of railway history in Germany and around the world.

The park management took delivery of the first trainset, which consists of the traction car with old Porsche bodywork and 3 visitors carriages, last weekend. In addition to the Porschelok trainset, the Park also procured a LKM N2 narrow gauge diesel locomotive, which will serve as a workshop shunting locomotive. A small workshop will be built near the pedestrian underpass to service and maintain the trainsets.

Further trials will be carried out on the trainset and the tracks to ensure they are safe to public ride. The railway stop is currently under construction and expected to finish by March 2023.
